In this blog, I got into detail about the demo piece I sent to Olga and how it set the tone for the rest of the score.
I am Nathan Drube, a composer for visual media and performing arts. I have decided to dedicate my life to writing music in many styles including fantisful orchestral scores to pulsing electronica and anywhere in-between.
Anyone who has seen a movie in theaters or played a video game has probably noticed that the music makes the mood. It can make a scene more intense, more beautiful and generally adds emotion. Music is essential to the film and game making process, and creating that music and sharing my vision and methods is what my blog is all about.
Over the last ten years, music has been an intricate part of my life and something I look forward to doing everyday. Whether my music has caused inspiration, motivation or any kind of emotion, down to even not liking the piece, as a composer, the most rewarding part of what I do is seeing how people react to what I write.
I will share exactly what goes into this side of the film and video game industry (as well as the occasional self indulgence of my own concert compositions). From the daunting task of figuring out the first notes of a score to the moment over one-hundred extremly talented professional musicians perform the piece for the first time. I will delve into the process of recording a MIDI mockups, engineering and score mixing and exploring and building up fantastic sample libraries. I aim to do all this in a way that is both informative and easy to understand for people who regularly do this and people who have never hear any of the things I just listed it before. Writing for visual media has proven both a challenging career and an exhilarating lifestyle that I will attempt to share on this blog.
I am glad you have found your way to my site and I hope you will continue with me as my musical endeavors continue to unfold!
